If you have been waiting at least 6 months for a decision, you can formally request that Migrationsverket decide your case. They must respond within 4 weeks. Here is everything you need to know about form 301011.
What is 'begäran om att avgöra'?
It is a formal legal tool governed by the Administrative Procedure Act (förvaltningslagen). You send a written request to Migrationsverket and they must either make a decision in your case or reject the request in a separate decision — all within 4 weeks.
“Om du har väntat mer än sex månader på ett beslut kan du begära att vi avgör ditt ärende. Vi ska då fatta ett beslut eller meddela dig varför vi inte kan göra det, inom fyra veckor.”— Migrationsverket, May 2026

Best timing — key considerations
Timing is critical, especially in May–June 2026:
Good to submit now if...
- → You meet all new requirements (8 years, income, conduct)
- → You want to try to get a decision BEFORE 6 June under the old rules
- → Your case has been stagnant for a long time without communication
Wait if...
- → You are unsure whether you meet the new requirements
- → Your income situation or residency is unclear
- → Consult a lawyer first if in doubt
Unsure whether you meet the new requirements?
Before submitting the request, check whether you meet the new rules from 6 June. A lawyer can help you assess whether the timing is right.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if Migrationsverket rejects the request?
You can appeal the rejection to the Administrative Court (förvaltningsrätten). The rejection does not affect your citizenship application itself — it continues to be processed.
Can I submit the request more than once?
The law does not prohibit it, but it is most effective when used at the right moment — when you genuinely need a quick decision and meet all requirements.
Does the request guarantee a positive decision?
No. It only speeds up processing. The decision may be either approval or rejection — regardless of your request.
